23 Free Private Schools You Can Apply to in East Jakarta

Ahead of the 2026/2027 student admissions (PPDB) period, East Jakarta has prepared 23 free private schools.

Applicants are not required to have a Jakarta Smart Card (KJP)

The program is part of the Jakarta Provincial Government's effort to expand access to education, especially for low-income residents who are not accommodated in public schools.

Jakarta Plans to Increase Number of Free Schools

Head of East Jakarta Education Sub-agency Region I, Muhammad Fahmi, said the number of participating schools continues to grow. It initially started with four schools and has now increased to 12 under Region I.

"This program is designed to accommodate students who are not accepted into public schools during the admissions period. They still have the opportunity to continue their education through private schools that have partnered with the Education Agency," he explained on Wednesday (5/6).

Fahmi noted that prospective students have three pathways during admissions. First, the initial selection stage. Second, the joint admissions stage. If they are not accepted in both, they can apply to free private schools as a final option.

"Interestingly, applicants are not required to have a Jakarta Smart Card (KJP). However, admission decisions remain under the authority of each school," he added.

Meanwhile, Head of East Jakarta Education Sub-agency Region II, Horale Tua Simanullang, said 11 private schools in his area have partnered with the Jakarta Education Agency.

"This program reflects the government's support for both the community and private schools. Not all students can enter public schools, so private schools provide a solution, with costs covered by the government," he said.

The free school program covers various education levels, from special schools (SLB) to junior high (SMP), senior high (SMA), and vocational schools (SMK).
